Many of our guests visit Highland County to look for property. Homes and vacation homes draw visitors on a regular basis. The Highland County Chamber of Commerce prepares relocation information and should be the first online place you may want to visit. If you are serious about moving into this area, subscribing to our local paper The Recorder is a good way to learn about the community as well as see ads for property for sale. Highland County Public Schools is probably the smallest school district in the state averaging about 300 students in grades K through 12. It also rates highly academically. Here is a link to Highland County Government if you need information. The Town of Monterey does not have a website but the Town Clerk can be reached at 540-468-2472. Other local information you may want can be found on the Chamber's Website, such as Emergency Services and the Highland Medical Center. Our own radio station WVLS 89.7 is part of a local mountain network serving our rural area. Looking for property? Shamrock & Stephenson's United Country is the full service Agency in the county. They are on Spruce Street next to the Courthouse. Shamrock & Stephenson now have an Agency in Staunton serving the Shenandoah Valley area as well. Gutshall & Associates located near the Inn on Main Street specializes in land sales and auctions. There are a couple of other realtors in Bath County that also serve Highland. Highland County is proud to still have two independent banks serving us. The largest is First & Citizens Bank (1929) located in Monterey, with a branch in Hot Springs. Blue Grass Valley Bank (1915) is located in the village of Blue Grass with a branch in Monterey. Both survived the Great Depression which makes them very well regarded. Other links of interest: Pure Space has seminars on de-cluttering. Highland Apparel is a local company that does personalized clothing and other items.
